At Heartland Bagels, pride in our quality and respect for tradition drives what we create every day. For over 25 years, we have only used the finest, freshest, and purest ingredients and have become one of the favorite bagel shops in the Island over the years. Our family-run business bakes from our heart to spread smiles one bite at a time.
To us, a perfect bagel is not judged just based on its shape. Our take pride in our expertise at blending ingredients and knowing how baking-temperatures, and even changes in the weather, can influence a bagel’s taste. The result: our bagels always taste like bagels, not like rolls or sandwich bread.
We keep a close eye on what goes on our shelves. They must be crisp and perfect. Bagels that don’t make the cut are discarded. Those which do pass the high-quality standards are transferred from the kitchen to shelves for our customers.
Get the freshest kosher spread in the Island for your next event, from our catering service where we offer a variety of platter combinations ‘good-morning baskets’ of bagels and spreads, and much more. We cater to events of various sizes and types including brists, shiva calls, bar mitzvahs, bat mitzvahs, kiddushes, corporate catering and more. Check out our catering menu here.
Only the best stuff is put on our shelves, and they are always baked with the love using traditional tried and true recipes, and lifetime of baking experiences. We specially recommend our Challah, the traditional Jewish Sabbath bread, which is prepared on the premises by ‘an old-time Jewish baker’ who has been with the store since its inception.
Try our traditional Jewish items like rugelach and hamantaschen, or any of the delectable items from our sugar-free desserts and baked goods range.
In addition to baked goods, we offer various grocery products, like eggs, milk, juice, along with a fresh assortment of classic bagel accompaniments, such as chubs, sable, kippered salmon, pickled herring, lox and nova.
As much as we love the classics, we also love experimenting with new recipes. We have something new on our menu every now and then. See some of our delicious offerings here.
Owner Anthony Teutonico purchased a decades-old kosher bake shop from its second owner in 1994, which now stands as Heartland Bagels. He prepares all his store’s baked goods onsite, and prides himself on keeping the crispiness of the bagel. Determined to always satisfy his customers, he arrives every morning at 4:00 AM to ensure everything being prepared for service is ready on time, and to his satisfaction.
Despite his relatively young age, Teutonico has 30 years of useful food-industry experience under his belt – and it shows. Earlier in his career, he has worked for well-known Staten Island food enterprises such as Cangiano’s in Grant City; the former Miggy’s supermarket in South Beach, and Belfiore Meats, in both Willowbrook and Dongan Hills. He was also the Co-owner of Andrew & Alan’s Bakery of New Dorp.
